Jennifer Gliere, from Cincinnati, Ohio, completed graduate work at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where she studied with Kathryn Cowdrick. She garnered rave reviews for her portrayals of Suzel in Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz with Mercury Opera Rochester and Magda in Puccini’s La rondine with the Eastman Opera Theatre. Most recently she has been seen as the title role in the staging premiere of Ophelia by Joel Weiss and in recital at Steinway Hall. Upcoming performances include Gilda with New Jersey Verismo Opera and recitals in PA and NY. She will spend Summer 2010 in residence with the Bel Canto at Caramoor festival, the Bard Summerscape! Festival, and Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble (the Standard Repertoire Project).

Equally at home on the concert and operatic stages, Gliere has been described as having a tone admirably suited for song recitals. She has appeared in recital and oratorio throughout New York State and the Midwest. She has given two recital tours in Mexico, performing in live festivals and events around the country as well as giving masterclasses to several youth choirs and appearing in television and radio studios.

Gliere has spent summers in residence with Bel Canto at Caramoor, Bard Summerscape! Festival, AIMS in Graz, and Opera Teatro di Lucca in Lucca Italy, coaching and performing with internationally renowned artists. Other programmes include 6 weeks at La Universidad de las Américas Puebla in Puebla, Mexico.

She was awarded her BM in vocal performance and music education summa cum laude from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she studied voice with Mari Opatz-Muni and Audrey Luna and conducting with Clayton Parr. Other mentors have included Will Crutchfield, Benton Hess, Russell Miller, and William Tracy. Favorite operatic credits at home and abroad include Le nozze di Figaro, La bohème, Die Zauberflöte, and The Telephone/Old Maid and the Thief.

Jennifer is indeed related to the Russian composer Reinhold Gliere. Relatives from Brazil, Moscow, and Berlin have all taken part in forming an extensive family tree and discovering the rich Gliere family history back to 1350.
